Clostridium butyricum is an anaerobic bacterium belonging to the genus Clostridium characterized by its production of butyric acid. It was first discovered by Dr. Miyairi Chikaji of Chiba Medical College in Japan in 1993, and therefore is commonly referred to as Clostridium butyricum Miyairi. The distinctive characteristic of Clostridium butyricum lies in its protective “shell” – the spore state. As a result, it demonstrates enhanced resistance to acid and heat, along with superior proliferation capabilities. It helps maintain digestive function, modulate intestinal microbiota ecology, promote proliferation of beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract, and enhance immune defense capacity.
