Collagen
Collagen and elastin are both fibrous proteins found abundantly in the skin. In the extracellular space, numerous collagen molecules are cross-linked together to form a collagen fiber network that provides high tensile strength. Elastin polypeptide chains are cross-linked to form rubber-like elastic fibers; when stretched, these fibers naturally rebound, imparting softness and flexibility to the skin.
The amino acid arrangement of collagen is characterized by an repeating pattern of glycin-proline-hydroxyproline. A key feature of collagen is its triple helix structure, formed by three polypeptide chains, each composed of thousands of amino acids.
Collagen has a complex molecular structure, forming distinctive high-level structures at different hierarchical levels. To date, more than 20 different forms of collagen have been identified.
Collagen ingredients are mainly extracted from pigs, cattle, fish, and other sources. Generally, animal-sourced collagen is processed through gentle hydrolysis technique to obtain small-molecule Type-I collagen. Research has confirmed that daily intake of hydrolyzed collagen as a nutritional supplement helps maintain youthful beauty.
Type I Collagen: This type of collagen is naturally found in the skin, tendons, blood vessels, and the internal organs. As one of the most abundant forms, Type I collagen constitutes about 90% of the body’s total collagen, provides tissue with their strength, and is commonly used in supplements and food.
Type II Collagen: This type of collagen is mainly found in joint cartilages, and is also found in trace amount in crystalline lens and cornea.
Collagen raw materials are differentiated in the market based on these different primary functions and locations within the body.
Weishardt, a world-renowned collagen manufacturer established in France in 1839, produces a wide range of high-quality products. This includes animal-derived gelatin from pig, cow, or fish skin for pharmaceutical, food, and other technical applications. Weishardt provides transparent and safe process controls, manufacturing its premium marine collagen in compliance with ISO and HACCP standards.
This collagen ingredient is sourced from premium fish and enzymatically hydrolyzed into collagen peptides. The resulting product is characterized by small molecular size, exceptional absorbability, and lack of fishy odor, with proven quality through testing
