Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10, also known as Ubiquinone (UQ), is a benzoquinone compound. CoQ10 exists in the mitochondria of cells and is an essential coenzyme for energy production. As the body ages, the concentration of CoQ10 gradually decreases. Although the human body is capable of synthesizing CoQ10,the amount is minimal, thus requiring supplementation through diet. When the body is deficient in CoQ10 , metabolic byproducts cannot be converted into energy, resulting in fatigue, decreased physiological function, which places a burden on the body. Moderate supplementation with CoQ10 can enhance physiological functions and maintain youthful energy.

According to the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), the following regulations apply to Coenzyme Q10 when used as a food ingredient:

  1. The maximum daily intake of CoQ10 used as a food ingredient is 30mg.
  2. Food containing CoQ10 as an ingredient should be labeled with the following warning: “Not suitable for children under 15 years of age, pregnant or lactating women, and patients taking anticoagulant medication (warfarin).”
