Shea butter is a plant-based oil extracted from the nuts of the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), a species found exclusively in Africa. Each shea tree yields only about 4-5 kilograms of shea butter annually, making it incredibly precious and earning it the moniker “sacred soft gold.”
The kernels of the shea fruit are ivory-colored and rich in nutrients including triterpenes, phytosterols, vitamin A, and vitamin E. These components help maintain cell membrane integrity, reduce the production of free radicals, and promote overall health. Its fat-soluble reparative properties enhance hydration and moisture, and promote metabolism, making it a common ingredient in beauty and skincare products.
