Calcium Citrate

Calcium citrate is the calcium salt of citric acid and is commonly used as a  food additive. It is widely applied in calcium supplementation. With good good solubility and favorable bioavailability, calcium citrate is a popular ingredient in calcium-fortified dietary supplements.

The following are the recognized physiological functions of calcium, in accordance with the Regulations Governing Determination of the Label, Promotion and Advertisement of Foods and Food Products Identified as False, Exaggerated, Misleading or Having Medical Efficacy, published by the Ministry of Health and Welfare:

Physiological Functions of Calcium:

  1. Maintain growth and development of bones and teeth.
  2. Help the blood coagulation function.
  3. Improve the normal contraction function of muscles, heart, and the sensitivity of nerves.
  4. Activate prothrombin to be converted into thrombin to help blood coagulation.
  5. Regulate cell permeability.
