Danshen Extract

Danshen refers to the root and rhizome of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., a perennial herbaceous plant in the Lamiaceae family. The plant is characterized by its square stems with fine hairs, purple blossoms, and leaves that resembles those of mints. Danshen has long been regarded as a renowned herb used for vitalizing the body and was listed as a premium-grade medicinal material in the Classic of the Materia Medica (Shennong Bencaojing), which dates back to the Eastern Han Dynasty.

The dried roots of Danshen is vermilion-red in appearance and similar in shape to ginseng, therefore earning its name. Danshen is also called purple danshen (Zhidanshen), red sage, or redroot sage. Danshen is valued for supporting metabolism, maintaining vitality, providing nourishment to strengthen the body, and regulating physiological functions.
